Don’t settle for ‘good enough’.

We’ve all settled for less at some point in our lives… A job you hated but stayed in for years, a relationship with someone who disrespected you, or a friendship which always requires you to compromise…

Choosing to accept something we know isn’t good enough, is essentially a decision.

For various reasons we ‘put up’ with the situation because we convince ourselves that the potential loss outweighs the potential gain.

According to the ‘certainty effect’, we prefer 100% certainty of something even when it doesn’t provide more benefits to us.

For example, the certainty of having a miserable job that pays our bills is better than the uncertainty of searching for a new job, even if the new job could make us happier.

The truth is that settling for something which stunts our potential, happiness or wellbeing, fuels our self-limiting beliefs and entraps us.

In the end our lives are the result of all the choices we make. It’s up to us -we can stay in our comfort zones, miserable and unfulfilled. Or we can take a chance, stretch ourselves and hit the jackpot.

Nelson Mandela said it best: “There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

Don’t become an accomplice to your circumstances by settling for good enough. Take a chance on yourself and you could be amazed at the outcome.
