Fatigue – Supporting your employees

Imagine driving your car with the fuel gauge on empty, the warning light flashing, and yet, you keep going. Eventually, it sputters to a stop. Our employees are no different.

“Fatigue makes fools of us all.  It robs you of your skills and judgement, and it blinds you to creative solutions” (Anon)

Fatigue is more than just feeling tired. It can cripple innovation, compromise safety, and drain motivation. When employees are running on empty, the entire organisation feels the impact.

⚠️Safety: A fatigued mind is a dangerous one. Studies show that tired employees are more prone to accidents and errors.

💡Innovation: When employees are exhausted, their ability to think outside the box, problem-solve, and innovate is severely diminished.

🎯Motivation: Chronic fatigue erodes morale. When employees are too tired to care, the ripple effect on team dynamics and productivity can be devastating.

How can you beat fatigue:

⭐️Prioritise breaks:
Encourage breaks, enforce reasonable work hours, and promote a culture that values rest.

⭐️Create a supportive environment: Provide resources for mental and physical health, and create a workplace where employees feel safe to speak up about their fatigue.

⭐️Lead by example:
Show that rest and recovery are essential. Leaders must model healthy behaviours to set the standard.

Ensure your team is running at it’s best-not just running. Addressing employee fatigue isn’t a perk—it’s a necessity for a thriving, innovative, and safe workplace.
