Don’t offer a lecture to a person who needs a hug.

Compassion and empathy can go a long way in all relationships, including at work with employees.

When people feel supported, heard, and seen, they are more likely to address the issue you wanted to lecture them about.

As an HR Consultant, I’ve seen first hand how relationships can break down because of how someone made someone else feel.

Situations are often inflamed when someone feels shamed, lectured, and judged, and it rarely, if ever, leads to positive outcomes or serves as the foundation of strong, healthy relationships.

Instead of putting our thoughts and frustrations onto others, a better approach might be to lead with curiosity, understanding, and empathy.

Often, people are figuring things out for themselves – they don’t need a lecture, they need compassion and understanding.

Who in your circle might need a hug instead of feeling told off? ❤️‍🩹
