It’s not okay for someone else to raise their voice at us, use derogatory language, or publicly humiliate us.

If you find yourself in a situation where you’re being mistreated, here are some tips to address the behaviour with the offending party:

⛑️Stay calm and composed. Take a deep breath and try to remain as calm as possible.

🛑Clearly and assertively communicate your boundaries. Let the person know that their behaviour is unacceptable and that you expect to be treated with respect.

⭐️Provide specific examples of the behaviour that is unacceptable. This will help the person understand exactly what they are doing wrong.

🎁 Offer solutions. If appropriate, suggest ways that the person can change their behaviour to be more respectful.

✍️Follow up. If the behaviour continues, don’t be afraid to escalate the issue to a senior person.

Standing up for yourself can be scary, but you’ll be pleased you did. It’s not okay to accept behaviour that demeans, intimidates, or makes you feel less than.
