Doing what is easy in the moment, that would hurt less, that might ease the discomfort to avoid the pain, is a spot we’ve all been in.
Being human means having a conscience-being able to distinguish between right and wrong. But at times we find ourselves in that grey area, where there is a heaviness that comes with choosing the right thing.
Whether it’s:
❤️🩹Ending a relationship that isn’t healthy for both parties anymore, or
🚑Leaving a job that pays well but isn’t challenging you or
🛟 Letting a team member go who doesn’t share the same values any longer.
Making decisions that might hurt or place the another person at a disadvantage is something most of us want to avoid.
I’ve observed that the reason we (including myself) often choose the less difficult decision, is because we want to keep the peace and avoid disappointing someone.
Unfortunately keeping the peace to avoid making the right decision usually has a negative trade off -on us, on others, our team and even our business.
Doing the right thing even if it hurts is horribly painful. It’s not always clear at the time and other options may always be tempting. But the right thing is always the right thing. Even when it incurs pain.
